Royal Welsh College Celebrates Graduation
and Honours New Fellows

The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama celebrated the
achievements of its talented graduates and honoured a prestigious
list of Fellows - and a special guest - at its 60th
anniversary year Graduation Ceremony at St David’s Hall on July
3rd 2009.
This year’s Fellows include:
Harry Christophers

Harry Christophers is known internationally as founder and
conductor of The Sixteen choir and period instrument ensemble, as
well as a regular guest conductor for many of the major symphony
orchestras and opera companies worldwide.
Quincy Jones

Quincy Jones is a world renowned producer, performer, writer and
arranger. The Award is made in honour of his Welsh roots and to
celebrate the increasingly successful presence of Jazz in the
curriculum of the Royal Welsh College.
Menna Richards

Over the past 30 years Menna Richards has carved out a
successful career in broadcasting, media, education and the arts.
During this time, she has made an important and valued contribution
to civic life in Wales. She has made a special contribution to
RWCMD as a former Chair of the College in overseeing and guiding
the strategic alliance with the University of Glamorgan, which has
heralded a new era for the College.
David Seligman

David Seligman has had an extensive legal career spanning 44
years. He has supported and contributed extensively to the
development of the Arts in Wales. His input in terms of time,
professional skills, leadership and financial contributions has
been exceptional, both in the scope of his commitment to numerous
and diverse arts organisations, and the impact that this has had on
the wider community as a result. He has been instrumental in
developing the cultural infrastructure of our capital city over
many years.
Edward Thomas

Edward Thomas has worked on all 52 episodes of Doctor Who from
2005 as well as 18 episodes of Torchwood. In 2006 he was nominated
for a BAFTA TV award, as best Break-through talent and a Royal
Television Society award. In 2007 he won a BAFTA Cymru Award for
Best Design for his work on Torchwood.
Maxim Vengerov

Maxim Vengerov is widely regarded as one of the world’s most
dynamic artists, having performed sold-out concerts with the
world’s most eminent orchestras in virtually every major city in
the world. He has made a significant contribution to the cultural
life of both Cardiff and the College through the Yehudi Menuhin
International Violin Competition.
