‘Inspirational’ Fellows honoured at Royal Welsh College of
Music & Drama Graduation
24 July 2008

On July 4 at St David’s Hall, the Royal Welsh College of Music
& Drama, the National Conservatoire of Wales, celebrated the
achievements of its talented graduates and honoured a distinguished
list of Fellows, at a Ceremony in St David’s Hall.
The students will follow in the footsteps of
other College Alumni like Gavin & Stacey creator and actor Ruth
Jones, Rob Brydon who also stars in Gavin & Stacey, Eastenders
star Jo Joyner and Eve Myles (BAFTA Wales Best Actress
2007).
Among the list of this year’s Fellows are
Pauline Crossley, James MacMillan and Christoper Mowat. Lady Anya
Sainsbury was honoured in absentia.
Hilary Boulding, the new Principal commented,
“Graduation day is a very special day in the College’s calendar and
I was proud to present this year’s graduates with their degrees at
my first graduation ceremony. Amongst a raft of achievements,
twenty students graduated with First Class Honours, a further
thirteen received Distinctions in Post-Graduate Diplomas. I
look forward to following the progress of all our graduating
students as they embark on the next stage of a career in the
arts.
We were delighted to confer Honorary
Fellowships on four people who have made a distinguished
contribution to the arts industry: James MacMillan for his services
to composition; Pauline Crossley for her dedication to youth arts;
Christopher Mowat in recognition of a distinguished performing
career and his support for developing musicians; and Lady Anya
Sainsbury for her unstinting support of emerging scenic designers
over 20 years of the prestigious Linbury Biennial Award for Theatre
Design. We believe that the work of these distinguished
individuals, our new Fellows, will provide an inspiration to our
students and we welcome them as part of the College community.“
