Prestigious Award for Enterprising Students

RWCMD student led company, Dragon Opera’r Ddraig, was announced as the winner of the 2010 Future Entrepreneur Award at a ceremony at Cardiff’s City Hall last night. The event was hosted by BBC presenter Lucy Owen and attended by over 400 guests including Wales’ First Minister.

The award includes business mentoring for 12 months and a £1000 cash prize.

Dragon Opera'r Ddraig was nominated for the award following an enterprise competition organised by the college last summer. Also nominated were Bethan Keeble and Victoria Reynolds of Side by Side Music, who have already been accepted onto a business mentoring scheme and are receiving external funding.

Both companies are also part of RepCo. at RWCMD – a new company bringing together a number of student led activities, which is receiving funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.

The University of Glamorgan launched the Future Entrepreneur Awards in 2009 to encourage students and graduates across Wales to become the entrepreneurs of the future.
