Olivier Nomination for Graduate David
RWCMD graduate David Thaxton has been
nominated for a Laurence Olivier award.
He is one of five actors nominated in the
category of Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in
Passion at The Donmar. David played the lead role of
Giorgio in the tale of desire, sacrifice and redemption.
Passion, which was awarded Best
Musical at the Evening Standard Awards, has two more College
connections. It was written by Stephen Sondheim, a Fellow of RWCMD,
and also starred another RWCMD graduate, Tim Morgan.
Before starring in Passion, David was
making a name for himself on the musical theatre stage, winning
massive public acclaim for his two-season stint as Enjolras in
Les Miserables.
Could this be the second recent Olivier
musical win by a RWCMD graduate? In 2010, Aneurin Barnard won the same category for his
West End debut as Melchoir in Spring Awakening.
Let that nail-biting countdown to the awards
ceremony on 13 March begin.
