College Pays Tribute to Elizabeth Taylor

Dame Elizabeth Taylor presents Prince Charles with a bust of Richard Burton

Elizabeth Taylor, who died on Wednesday, will be much missed as a friend to the Royal Welsh College.

She was a great supporter of the College and flew over from her home in America just last year to attend a Royal Gala, where she presented His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales with a bust of her late husband, Richard Burton, to be placed in the new theatre which bears his name.

Lord Rowe-Beddoe, who knew Richard Burton from their school days, described Elizabeth Taylor as an ‘extraordinary and dynamic woman’.

On hearing the news, Principal Hilary Boulding said, “The Royal Gala was a very touching evening. Elizabeth watched our students perform and seemed really charmed by them. She presented the Prince of Wales with the bust of Richard Burton which will stand in the foyer of the new theatre and she was very moved and quite tearful.

It’s a very sad day today but we feel there will be something of her memory here at the new theatre which is in recognition of the person she was greatly in love with.”
