A Collaboration Between the Generations
With a cast and crew that includes Royal Welsh College
staff, students, graduates and even Young Actors Studio students,
Theatr Peña give us a
rare opportunity to see collaboration between the generations in
their latest production, The Trojan Women.
Following the sell-out run of their first production, Theatr
Peña returns to the Riverfront this Wednesday to perform Brendan
Kennelly’s The Trojan Women by Euripides.
After being held under siege for ten years by the Greeks, the
city of Troy has finally fallen and the women of Troy await their
fate outside the ruined city walls. Euripides’ battered and broken
women are the survivors of a wrecked civilization, prisoners of war
about to be carried into slavery. A play of brutal simplicity,
timeless and universal, Euripides' tragic commentary remains one of
the most powerful indictments of war ever written.
Director (and RWCMD Young Actors’ Studio course
leader), Erica Eirian says: “Working with RWCMD colleagues and
students is always a pleasure. Music Technology student, Gruffyd
Johnston, has created a fantastic soundscape in consultation with
our Musical Director, Paula Gardiner (Head of Jazz and Welsh Folk
Music at the College). And when I watch our three YAS students
rehearsing with some of the other cast members - who have clocked
up 30 or 40 years of experience in the business – I couldn’t be
more proud!”
7.45pm Wed 10 to Sat 13 Feb 2010, Matinees Thurs 1pm and Sat
3pm. Tickets are £12/£10 (school & college groups £6).
