UK Design for Performance Exhibition comes to Wales for the
first time

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama,
in partnership with The
Society of British Theatre Designers (SBTD) is hosting
Transformation & Revelation, the UK Design for
Performance Exhibition 2011, next March.
The four week exhibition will take place in
the Royal Welsh College’s new exhibition arcade, showcasing the
most innovative and groundbreaking designs from UK based
performance designers, and members of the Society of British
Theatre Designers between 2007 and 2011.
“Transformation & Revelation will
show designs for productions from across the UK and
internationally, featuring designs, models, costumes, puppets, and
a complete record of some of the most exciting theatre, opera and
dance work from many of the world’s leading designers,” explains
Sean Crowley, director of drama at Royal Welsh College, and
exhibition coordinator for SBTD.
“It is an extraordinary opportunity to host
this acclaimed exhibition and to host it in the College’s purpose
built exhibition arcade.”
The exhibition will feature an
unprecedented amount of exhibitors, including emerging talents such
as recent Linbury Biennial Competition
winners. Since 2001 Royal Welsh College students have consistently
been among this award’s finalists, with Jean Chan among the four
winners in 2009, and Tom Scutt and Rhys Jarman winning in 2007.
The exhibits that will represent the UK in the
next Prague Quadrennial (the
international exhibition of Scenography featuring the work of over
400 designers from 50 countries) next June, will be selected from
the work presented at this National Exhibition.
