Department of Percussion Studies
Our aim is to provide all percussion students with the
opportunity to fulfil their individual ambitions. Whether as a
soloist, orchestral player or teacher, you will receive expert
tuition and guidance throughout your course in preparation for your
professional life.
Through individual lessons, you will develop a sound technique
in timpani and percussion playing as well as a thorough knowledge
of the orchestral repertoire. Students also receive additional
one-to-one tuition in drum kit and participate in specialist group
sessions in Latin American percussion.
We will provide opportunities for you to build your professional
skills and musical confidence through participation in College
ensembles as well as masterclasses and workshops with visiting
artists. You will also be a member of the Percussion Ensemble,
performing both at College and at external venues. In addition,
there will be opportunities to work with schools and community
groups throughout Wales, providing educational workshops for
children and disabled people.
The department owns a comprehensive range of percussion
instruments, which is constantly reviewed and updated. These
instruments fulfil the percussion requirements of all the
performing groups within the College.
