Junior Music and Access Studies
Entry Requirements
Entry to the Junior Course is by audition. The entry standard
for younger applicants (aged 8-11 years) is approximately Grade 5
with merit/distinction. A higher standard is generally expected of
older students. Consideration is given to your musical potential as
well as age and instrument.
You will be asked to perform:
- Two contrasting pieces on your Principal Study
- One piece on your Additional Study, if applicable
- Scale and arpeggios of appropriate standard to grade achieved
(instrumental candidates)
- Short sight-reading test
If you’re applying for Music Technology Pathway you will need to
submit recordings of two pieces.
There also be pitch and rhythm tests plus an informal interview
where you will be asked to discuss your musical aspirations and
other interests.
If you are concerned about the idea of an audition, we would
like to reassure you that our panel will seek to put you at ease
and make the audition a constructive experience.
