For string players and pianists aged 13 - 18 years with a
playing standard of Gr. 6 level and above.
This five day non-residential summer school is designed to
provide young string players and pianists with the opportunity to
experience the buzz of making music together in an inspirational
and friendly environment.
Led by Ioan Davies, a highly acclaimed chamber music performer
and coach, each day will begin at 10-00am and finish at 4-00pm.
Students will be placed in small ensembles, specially selected to
create a stimulating working atmosphere. Ensembles will receive two
coaching sessions a day and there will be opportunities for all
students to participate in workshops designed to help and encourage
players to develop and improve ensemble and stage presentation
skills. Where necessary, individual practise time will be built
into timetables.
There will be an informal performance by staff, an opportunity
for participants to attend a concert gven by the Estrella Piano Quartet * and
the course will end with a presentation for parents and families in
which each ensemble will perform works that have been studied.
Players will have the chance to explore some of the most
exciting music written by famous composers over the last 300 years.
The music is composed for small groups of players numbering between
three and six instruments. The music will be chosen very carefully
to give each player the very best chance to enjoy the sensation of
performing with others in a group without a conductor.
