BREEAM

The College's new development will be aiming to achieve a BREEAM 'excellent' rating. BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance. You can find more information about BREEAM on their website.

The following information outlines some of the key statistics concerning the new development.

A basic description of project

The design and construction of a world class, acoustically excellent 450 capacity, concert hall, a 160 seat courtyard theatre, four rehearsal rooms, theatre design spaces, teaching facilities and refurbishment of the existing building reception together with associated external works and services.

The key innovative and low impact design features of the building

  • Displacement ventilation for both auditorium
  • Under floor heating for the main foyer and rehearsal studios
  • High quality U values
  • Air tight construction for the auditorium, aiming at 8m3/m2/hr @ 50Pa
  • Heat recovery ventilation system
  • Thermal wheel for the two main central auditorium air handling plants
  • Condensing boiler with exceptionally low NOx emission rate and efficiency of 92%+
  • Variable flow system
  • Zonal control for different areas, local occupant control interlink to a central BMS
  • Natural ventilation for foyer, arcade and part of the drama block
  • Shading elements to minimise solar radiation
