Gail Pearson

Renowned as one of the UK’s most respected and experienced
sopranos, Gail Pearson’s remarkable career is testimony as much to
her superb musicality as to her dramatic ability. She enjoyed both
critical and public acclaim as Ann Truelove in The Rake’s
Progress for Angers-Nantes Opéra (a role she also performed
under the baton of the late Richard Hickox), while extending her
growing discography earlier this year by recording the role of Echo
in Ariadne for Chandos. Her immediate future schedule
includes a welcome return to Opera Holland Park as Garsenda in
Francesca da Rimini. Gail has appeared extensively in the
UK with performances ranging from Frasquita in Carmen for
Welsh National Opera and English National Opera to Alyeya in
Janáček’s From the House of the Dead and appearing at
festivals such as the Buxton and Aldeburgh Festivals.
Highlights of her international engagements have included Arbate in
Mitridate at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris and First
Nice in Peter Grimes for Opéra de Nancy and Oberto in
Alcina for Opernhaus Zürich.
Gail’s concert work includes numerous successful collaborations
with the Raymond Gubbay organisation, Mozart’s Exultate
Jubilate with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Cherubini’s
Medée with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Mackerras) at the
Salzburg Festival, Oberto with the Academy of Ancient Music (Paul
Goodwin) in Poissy and Montreux. Her recordings include
Iris in Semele, recorded for Grange Park Opera, Vaughan
Williams’s The Poisoned Kiss (Hickox) and Jenůfa
for Covent Garden, conducted by Sir Bernard Haitink.
