Chris Wescott

Chris Wescott began studying double
bass while at primary school under John Bass. He
continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and
Drama with Kevin Rundell and Tom Martin, winning the Eugene
Cruft Memorial Prize for Double Bass, and graduating with a
class 11' Honours degree. During his time at the GSMD,
Chris also became an Associate of the Royal College of
Music.
While continuing his studies with
Kevin Rundell, Chris spent a year gaining a Postgraduate
Certificate in Education and for a year taught class music at
Hinchingbrook School in Huntingdon. He joined the Bournemouth
Symphony Orchestra as Co-Principal Double Bass in 1983.
In 1989 he left to pursue a
freelance career playing with all the major London orchestras,
and two years later became Principal Double Bass
of the BBC Concert Orchestra. He has worked as guest Principal
Double Bass with the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic,
BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, English Chamber and English
National Opera orchestras. In 2006 Christopher became Sub-Principal
Double Bass with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Chris has enjoyed studying various
courses with the Open University,
enjoys life, and is married with three older children and
four-year-old
twin boys!
