Penny Driver

Penny performs with a wide variety of ensembles and orchestras giving concerts all over the world with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and John Eliot Gardiner’s Orchestre Revolutionaire at Romantique. She was co-principal with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra from 1990 to 1995 and has performed as recitalist and chamber musician in festivals and series throughout Britain.

Penny was a student of Ralph Kirshbaum whilst at Cambridge University and at the Royal Northern College of Music. She spent two years in Chicago on a Countess of Munster scholarship studying with Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet, and was a finalist in the Chicago Symphony’s Concerto Competition. She also worked with Natalya Shakhovskaya at Moscow Conservatoire.

In addition to her teaching at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Penny also teaches the cello at Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School.
