Phillipa Waite

Philippa Waite trained as a dance teacher at
the Laban Studio, Surrey. She studied historical dance in the
UK before specialising in Baroque dance in the USA, where she
performed and gave lecture-demonstrations under the direction of
Wendy Hilton. She was awarded an Arts Council of Wales grant
for further study of advanced theatrical dances with Wendy Hilton
in California, USA.
Philippa is Artistic Director of Consort de Danse Baroque in which
capacity she performs, teaches workshops and gives illustrated
lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of Baroque dance
throughout the UK, Europe and abroad. The group has received
project funding from the Arts Council of Wales.
An experienced teacher of historical dance, Philippa is currently
guest teacher of Period Movement and Dance at The Royal Welsh
College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, and the Bristol Old Vic
Theatre School.
A skilled choreographer and period dance
reconstructor, Philippa has had
her work in Baroque dance performed in The Green Show at the
Annual
Oregon Shakespeare Festival (1995), as well as at a variety of
venues in
the UK. She has worked with early music groups including
Florilegium,
Passacaglia and the Welsh Baroque Orchestra, and with members of
the
City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She has also produced,
directed
and choreographed many Baroque masques and other period
entertainments
for a variety of events and venues.
