Caryl Thomas

Caryl Thomas is widely recognised as one of the most accomplished solo recital harpists performing to great critical acclaim throughout Europe, the United States, Russia and Japan. She made her American debut in 1981 at Carnegie Halls as winner of the Concert Artists Guild Award, and her London debut at the Wigmore Hall a year later.

She graduated from RWCMD and New York University, where she received an MA degree. She has been awarded many scholarships and prizes, including a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship and was the first British harpist to win a major prize at the International Harp Contest in Jerusalem.

Caryl has appeared as a soloist with the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Bournemouth Sinfonietta and the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg.  She has recorded the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto with the London Philharmonic and has played with numerous chamber groups.

Caryl has given numerous Radio 3 recitals, hosted her own music series on S4C and has completed a solo record entitled "Claire de Lune” and a selection of chamber works with the Prometheus Ensemble called "French Impressions”.  In 2007, Caryl was Chairperson of Arpa Viva Cymru, the 7th European Harp Symposium.
