Lynne Plowman

Lynne Plowman is a composer and flautist based in Wales. In
2003, she was awarded the British Composers Award for Stage Works,
for her first opera, Gwyneth and the Green Knight.
Performed by Music Theatre Wales, it received outstanding reviews
from The Times, Opera Now and The Independent.
Lynne's concert works range from intimate songs, solos and
chamber music to dramatic large-scale vocal and orchestral works. A
series of commissions for the London Mozart Players includes
The Return of King Raedwald written in residence at
Wingfield Arts in Suffolk, The Stargazer, for tenor and
strings and Cries Like Silence, a dramatic setting of
poems by Ted Hughes and E E Cummings, for solo voices, choir,
children's choir, orchestra, brass band, electric guitar and bass
drums.
In 2009, Lynne completed an ambitious new score to the
extraordinary classic German Expressionist silent film, The
Cabinet of Dr Caligari. This highly theatrical seventy minute
work for chamber orchestra was performed live by the London Mozart
Players, alongside screenings of the film, across Wales last
year.
Lynne plays the flute with Cardiff's PM Music Ensemble and is a
composition tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama,
where she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship in 2007. She is
committed to encouraging children and young people to compose their
own music through her workshops in schools. Her work is frequently
broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and there are four CDs of her music
available.
