Nigel Seaman

Born in Denbigh, North Wales, Nigel began his career with Rhyl Silver Band and went on to study at the Royal Northern Colleges of Music under Stuart Roebuck.

On graduating he joined the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera as Principal Tuba. Two years later he moved to Principal Tuba with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, a position he held for 33 years until his recent retirement from the orchestra.

During his career, Nigel has also been heavily involved in brass band conducting, holding a number of appointments with the top Welsh brass bands. For three years, he was Resident Conductor of Tredegar Town Band assisting them in their preparation for the National Brass Band Championships in 1999, when they won third prize.  In 2003 Nigel became associated with the Desford Colliery Band as Music Director, winning the top prize at the 2008 All England International Masters Championships in Cambridge.

As well as maintaining a busy teaching schedule at RWCMD, Nigel is in demand as a freelance conductor and adjudicator and currently works with a number of bands in Wales and the West of England.
