Christopher Mowat
Christopher was of Head of Brass and Percussion at RWCMD from
2000-2005. Previously, he was was Professor of
Trombone at the Royal College of Music and Trinity College London.
He has been an adjudicator for the BBC Young Musician of the Year
and The Audi Young Musician Competition.
Christopher studied at Emmanuel College
Cambridge. As an undergraduate he was silver medallist in the
Concours International d’Execution Musicale de Geneve. He has
been principal trombone with the BBC Symphony Orchestra,
the Royal Philharmonic and the Halle, where he
performed as concerto soloist. He has also
played extensively with other orchestras including the Academy of
St Martins and the English Chamber Orchestra.
As a member of, and arranger for, the
Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble and its successor, London Brass, his
music is published by Chesters and Brass Wind Publications and
appears in the syllabi of the ABRSM and the GSMD. His arrangements
and compositions have been recorded by artists ranging from the
Berlin Philharmonic Brass to Desford Colliery Band and the Kings
Singers.
Christopher was made an Honorary
Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in
2008.
