Award-Winning Facilities

The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama offers students a wide range of performance opportunities and other practical experiences in an environment that accurately reflects the practices and conditions of the professions to which they aspire.

‘It is imperative that our students train in professional facilities so that they can move seamlessly onto the national and international stage,’ says Principal Hilary Boulding.

The Raymond Edwards Building houses professional standard facilities and well equipped group and private study spaces:

  • Bute Theatre (flexible seating capacity)
  • Caird Studio Theatre (flexible seating capacity)
  • Sir Geraint Evans Recital Room
  • Practice rooms
  • Classrooms
  • Design Studios
  • Theatre Design workshops
  • Extensive library
  • IT Suite

The campus also includes an award-winning restoration of the former castle mews buildings, now called the Anthony Hopkins Centre:

The College has begun its £22.5 million redevelopment, due to open in early 2011. A 21st century addition to Cardiff’s historic city centre arcades, the development will complement the College’s existing high quality facilities with:

  • An acoustically excellent 450 capacity recital hall
  • 160 seat theatre with dress circle and teaching gallery
  • 4 full-sized, double height acting and movement studios
  • A magnificent entrance arcade/exhibition space
  • Public café bar and terrace overlooking the historic Bute Park
